Hirsch, in 1947. She was then co-owner, with her husband, who died in 1995, of the Hirsch Uniform Company, Kansas City, MO. She was a volunteer with the Library for the Blind. Mrs. Hirsch was a member of Congregation B'nal Jehudah and its Sisterhood.

She served on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Association for the Blind; was a past president of Hadassah, Theodore Herzl Chapter, of which she was a life member; member and past board member of the National Council for Jewish Women; past president of the L'Institut de la Causerie Francaise; past member of the Auxiliary Board of Shalom Geriatric Center; member of the Kansas City Chapter of Brandeis University; and the Women's American ORT. Mrs. Hirsch was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1949 graduate of the Columbia County High School, Magnolia, AR. He was a graduate of the Cinncinati College of Mortuary Science.

He was a member of the Wayne Miner Post American Legion. He had retired from the U.S. Post Office as a mail clerk in 1986. He was President of the Citadel Home Owners Association. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for the state of Missouri and a licensed embalmer for the state of Arkansas.

He was a member of the Missouri-Kansas Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, the Missouri State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, and the Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity. While living in Raytown, Gene was employed as a credit manager for Gas Service Company for 17 years, retiring in 1985. In 1986, they moved to their home in Cole Turkey Acres near Warsaw. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw and V.F.W. Post of Lincoln, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, LaVerne Winters, and two sisters, Betty Gibson, and Laura Belle Roberts.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Winters, of the home; three sons.
