Blue is the protagonist of Blue's Clues, its spin-off Blue's Room, and its reboot Blue's Clues & You. In every episode of Blue's Clues and its reboot, she initiates a game of Blue's Clues in which she leaves three paw print clues for her owner and the viewer to find the answer to a question. She is the main opponent in the story mod song Clues, and a playable character in freeplay songs Knocker Over, Chew Toy, Salty Situation, and a section of Sorrow.
Appearance[]
Blue is a sky blue dog with darker blue spots and a dark blue nose. Her eyes are white with black pupils (very dark blue in the original). Her tongue is pink if she opens her mouth or licks something. She has big, floppy ears, and a dark blue paw print on her right front paw, though for some reason an extra fourth toe can be seen when she presents her paw print.
In Sorrow, she plays a dark blue electric guitar.

- Despite a common misconception caused by her coloring, Blue is a girl.
- Blue is the only character to appear in every episode of the Blue's Clues franchise.
- According to the season 5 episode Blue Goes to the Doctor, Blue is 20 lbs and 2 ft in height.
- The voice for Blue, Traci Paige Johnson, is one of the series' creators.
- When deciding on Blue's voice actor, people went around the room asking each other if anyone could bark. As it turns out, Traci was the one who could do it the best.

Magenta is a recurring character in Blue's Clues and its reboot. She is the best friend of Blue and sings alongside her in a section of Clues.

Magenta looks exactly like Blue, except she's a magenta color with darker magenta spots and a dark magenta nose. In the season 3 episode Magenta Gets Glasses, she begins to wear purple glasses.

Mr. Salt is a main character in Blue's Clues and its reboot. He is the opponent in the story mode song Cookin'.
Appearance[]
Mr. Salt is an off-white color with a silver-colored cap. There are three black-colored holes on the top of his cap. He has a pink mouth and black eyes. His arms are short and black with three fingers on the ends of each one. In the series, he is made to look like he was created with construction paper cut-outs.
He plays a guitar in some sections of Cookin'.

- Mr. Salt was originally given a Brooklyn accent instead of being French.
- Mr. Salt may have been inspired by the mâitre d’-turned-candelabra named Lumiere from Disney's Beauty and the Beast in which both characters are French and love to serve food to guests.

Mailbox is mostly dark purple. His face is on his door, which is a lighter shade of purple and has a silver latch at the top. He has a bright pink flag, which is connected to him with a small purple bolt.

- In the UK version, Mailbox's name was changed to Postbox.
- He is the only Blue's Clues character to have his age confirmed.

Green Puppy[]
Green Puppy is a minor recurring character in Blue's Clues. She is the opponent of the freeplay song Knocker Over.
Appearance[]
Green looks just like Blue and Magenta, except for the fact that she is mint green with darker green spots and a dark green nose, and her ears are much smaller in design than Blue or Magenta's ears. She has two white eyes with black pupils. Two small teeth are shown sticking out from inside her mouth, making her look similar to a bulldog.

- In the season 3 episode Blue's Big Holiday, it is revealed that Green Puppy is owned by country music singer Wynonna Judd.
- Her favorite color is brown, revealed in the season 5 episode Blue Takes You to School.

Pawprint is Blue's paw print that she places on items for the host and viewer to find while playing Blue's Clues. It is the opponent of its titular song Pawprint.

Periwinkle is a recurring character in Blue's Clues and its reboot. He is the opponent of the freeplay song Magic.

Periwinkle is a lilac tabby kitten, and he is bluish white with blue triangles on his forehead. He has triangles on his back, triangular ears and a pink nose. Periwinkle has a short curvy and skinny tail and four legs; his feet have invisible toes. His right front foot is periwinkle and the other feet aren't.
